Former students testimonials

I had the honour of studying with Maestro Talmi for four years at the Buchann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University. During those years we examined and analysed important works of the symphonic repertoire. We went deeply into the structure and the details of each piece, we had to learn the scores by heart and be ready to point out the keys, the harmonies,  instrumentation, dynamics and all other important aspects, while conducting a specific section in the score.

Yoav was very committed to me and to all his other students' growth and success, he is always interested in our achievements, gives his recommendations and support and shares his knowledge and wisdom.

Yoav is a true Maestro. He is a renowned and experienced  international conductor whose great many years in the profession led him to a thorough knowledge and understanding of the major and most important symphonic repertoire.

I have graduated from Tel Aviv University's Buchmann-Mehta School of Music where I studied under the guidance of Maestro Yoav Talmi. Those years in his Master's degree class were a major turning point in my career. Being a true passionate teacher Talmi opened for me an entirely new approach to score studying and analysing, and to developing a serious conducting career.

Sharing his knowledge and experience with us, his students, is what prepared me and my friends for our professional life.

Music Director, Teatro Colon Orchestral Academy Assistant Professor of Orchestral Conducting, the National University of Arts of Argentina

It has been a great privilege to learn from an inspiring musician and educator such as Yoav Talmi.

I consider my years in Maestro Talmi’s conducting class at the Buchmann-Mehta school of music as the most significant preparation and a direct bridge to the professional field of conducting.

Next to the intensive work on all aspects of the art of conducting, such as analysis, understanding the score, body language, technique, interpretation and musical expression, Yoav shared with us important practical issues, accumulated through over fifty active years on the podium. Sharing with us his vast experience and deep knowledge of the orchestra and orchestral conducting was for me one of the highlights of our studies.

The way Maestro Talmi perceives the musical interpretation of any work and conveys it to the musicians is truly unique and inspiring!

I was fortunate  to witness his exuberant and stormy performance of Schumann's 4th Symphony with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra back in 2019.

As a teacher, beyond conducting technique, at the top of his precise and instant remarks, was always to strive for the accurate interpretation of the musical text, to faithfully follow  the composer's indications and intentions.

As a student, I have no words to describe the way Yoav supported me and I definitely wouldn't have been where I am now without his trust in me.

I had the pleasure of studying with Maestro Talmi for two summers at the Domaine Forget Music Festival in Canada.

Yoav Talmi had a great influence on me and my musical growth in many ways. He deepened my approach to score studying, bringing me closer to the essence of a work. He helped me develop greater confidence in my conducting while sharing with all of us his wealth of wisdom and experience concerning the masterworks and the orchestral world – all of this with tremendous kindness, patience and generosity.
